We’re hosting a day of fun outdoor activities at The Bowling Green in Pollokshields. Expect music, food and good vibes!

This will be an alcohol-free and family-friendly space. Covid-19 restrictions will be in place in line with Scottish Government advice at the time of the event.

General Access Information

Trained assistance dogs and guide dogs are welcome in the space. Other dogs are also welcome, if kept on a lead.

This is a family-friendly event. The space provides areas for children to play, and we will have planned activities for children of different ages.

We will provide food, water, and refreshments during the event.

The Space

Pollokshields Bowling Green is a large, mostly flat, grassy area. There are picnic tables and outdoor seating in the green. There are several marquees that provide rain cover. There is a large tent which will function as a quiet, low-sensory space.

 
The main entrance to the green on Kenmure Street is a gateway 122cm/4′0″ wide, leading onto a paved pathway 112cm/3′7″ wide. This takes you to the Welcome desk and a small area with seating. To enter the main area of the green there is a narrower gravel path 89cm/2′9″ wide, which is very slightly sloped.


There is a second entrance to the green on Maxwell Street, also with a gateway 122cm/4′0″ wide, and leading to a paved pathway 89cm/2′9″ wide. This pathway leads onto a flat ramp 107cm/3′5″ wide, that takes you onto the main area of the green.


Toilets

There will be a standard Portaloo and wheelchair-accessible Portaloo in the green. The wheelchair accessible portable toilet is designed to allow independent use when using a standard sized wheelchair, with self-transfer from wheelchair to WC aided by a handrail attached to two walls. The hand sanitiser, toilet tissue and hand towel dispensers are all positioned for ease of use. Dimensions of the wheelchair-accessible Portaloo are: Depth and width 157.5cm, Height 231.1cm,Door Opening Height 205.4cm, Door Opening Width 62.2cm.


How to get there

The Bowling Green is located on McCulloch Street in Pollokshields. It’s a 10minutewalk from West Street and Shields Road Subway Stations. The number 57, 38, 4and 3 buses all stop on Pollokshaws Road which is a 10minute walk from The Bowling Green.

 

Directions from Pollokshaws Road: Start at the Scottish Ballet School on Pollokshaws Road. From there, turn the corner onto Albert Drive, and keep walking on past the Tramway. Continue over the railway bridge, and keep walking until you get to Kenmure Street. Then turn right to walk along Kenmure Street.There is a Londis shop on the corner. Continue along Kenmure Street until you reach the junction with Maxwell Road. You will see The Bowling Green in front of you - there is a large sign that reads ‘The Bowling Green’. Continue walking down Kenmure Street, and you will find the entrance to The Bowling Green on your right.


Covid-19 Safety

We will run the event in line with Scottish Government restrictions at the time of the event. Currently, outdoor open space events are advised to operate with a maximum capacity of 500 people. We don’t plan to exceed more than 150 people at the Bowling Green to allow adequate space for distancing. We ask that you turn up in groups of no more than 10 people.


We ask that you don’t attend if you’re currently experiencing any symptoms ofCovid-19 or have been in contact with someone who has recently tested positive. We encourage you to take a lateral flow test before attending.


We will have a Welcome Desk at the entrance to the Bowling Green, where we will ask you to leave your name and contact details, to allow us to do any necessary track-and-trace measures. There will be hand sanitiser available.
